What's next

Colchester Friends of the Earth has been working on this campaign for some time now. You can read about it on the Big Ask History page.

The Climate Change Bill, which Friends of the Earth has worked so hard to get has finished its consultation period. The next stage is to make sure that the law that follows is a strong law.

While the Climate Change Bill is a good first step there are vital changes that need to be made in order for it to be strong and effective.

Three key issues that need to be included are:

  • The 60% target to be changed to 80% or higher
  • International aviation and shipping to be included in the bill
  • Yearly targets of CO2 production rather than a five-year plan

It is up to all of us to ensure that we get the law we need and deserve, the law that our MPs agreed to when signing EDM 178.

You can help achieve this. See the Big Ask website for some actions you can take to ensure the UK is doing its bit in tackling climate change.
