Campaign 1

Colchester Friends of the Earth has been involved in a variety of events. On this page you will find a brief summary of some of them.

"Real Recycling for Zero Waste" Conference

Our most recent conference was run by the Zero Waste Chartists, hosted by Colchester & NE Essex Friends of the Earth, at the Friends Meeting House, Rainsford Road, Chelmsford on Saturday 28th June. For full details, see conference invitation page and conference report.

Welcome to CFoE Meetings

We hold occasional meetings to introduce people to Colchester Friends of the Earth. Here is the invitation from 2007.

We invite you to a 'Welcome to Colchester Friends of the Earth' meeting
Monday 26th November 2007
7.30pm in Children's Room, Friends Meeting House, Church Street, Colchester

Speaker: Gary Griffiths
'Chips With Everything - Computers and the Environment'

Resources used in the manufacture of computers
Energy use - Use of computers - Reuse & recycling of computers

Colchester FoE hold monthly business/campaign meetings which newcomers don't find easy to understand. We don't have time to welcome them properly or explain about our campaigns. So we decided to try quarterly 'Welcome to CFoE' meetings with a speaker of interest to everyone including our current members. We will have our speaker, questions and discussion, and then say a bit about our Colchester Friends of the Earth group and current campaigns if there are any interested new people.

Gary will talk about computer reuse and recycling, linking to the new WEEE Regulations, looking at some of the issues covered - and some he is concerned are not yet fully addressed. He will bring samples of recycled computer bits for people to see and handle as well. He would also welcome feedback on the issues raised.

Gary Griffiths is the Environmental & Quality Systems Manager for RDC, responsible for the company's waste management licence and certification of the company's integrated management system to the international standards for quality (ISO 9001), environmental management (ISO 14001) and safety (OHSAS 18001).

RDC are the largest computer reuse and recycling business in the UK, in 2006 processing over 700,000 items of computer equipment. Most are refurbished and reused, some recycled - with zero landfill of IT waste and over 80% recycling of packaging waste. RDC operate from Witham, Germany and France.
